Ozark Vacation Lake Luxury Accommodations 101 Norfork Resort

Day Trips & Nearby Attractions

In addition to all of the recreational opportunities on the lake there are many nearby attractions that are well worthwhile.

On that rare rainy day you should consider a visit to Blanchard Springs Caverns. You can stroll through large, beautifully lighted rooms with handrails and paved trails for comfortable walking. This is a living cave administered by the USDA Forest Service

Just up the road from the Blanchard Springs Cavern, is the Ozark Folk Center. Here you can enjoy traditional American folk culture, crafts, music, and festivals in the Ozark Mountains!

Arkansas's Ozark Folk Center State Park is America's only facility that preserves the Ozark heritage and presents it as living history.

For a nice day trip there is Mammoth Springs State Park 40 miles to the east of us. Mammoth Spring is Arkansas's largest spring and a National Natural Landmark. Out of it flows nine million gallons of water hourly. Forming a scenic 10-acre lake, then flows south as the Spring River, a popular Ozark trout and float stream.

On your way home a stop in historic Hardy, Arkansas is a fine way to spend an hour or two.

There are three rivers within a 1/2 hour drive. The Buffalo River National Park is one of the few remaining unpolluted, free-flowing rivers in the lower 48 states offering both swift-running and placid stretches. Please visit our Friends page for a selection of float trip operators.

Fifteen miles to our south at Norfork Lake Dam is the National Fish Hatchery. Dry Creek features a no licence catch & release area for seniors, handicapped and children.

In the nearby town of Norfork is the historic
Wolf House the oldest public structure in Arkansas.

If golf is your thing, we can arrange discounted tee times for you at
Big Creek Golf Club and Twin Lakes Golf Club municipal course.

Big Creek is an award winning course that is on the "The Natural State's Golf Trail" and our guest are accorded dining privileges at the Big Creek Club House restaurant. The Club House offers a gourmet menu, in an elegant setting.

Trail rides, training and horse boarding are available at several convenient locations in our area. Double S Oaks Ranch offers a full range of equestrian services for your riding needs.

North Central Arkansas is a dream come true for motor cyclists. Mile after mile of twisting mountain roads offer wondrous vistas around every turn. Here is a link to a cool video of our touring possibilities.

Bramson Promenade

For first rate shopping and dining experiece consider a day trip to Branson Landing. Bass Pro,Victoria's Secret, Brookstone and over 100 other fine retailers are located at this new riverside mall. We especially enjoy dining at Bar Louie. Be sure to ask us about the scenic route (4 hours) verses the direct route (two hours).

Laura Engles House

Many of our guests make a pilgrimage to the Bass Pro Shop in Springfield, MO. by itself, a worthwhile trip.

However, you may want to start a bit early to stop in at the Laura Ingalls Wilder Historic Home-Place in Mansfield, MO. Seeing the home that she and her husband designed and the desk where she penned her famous Little House books gives you a stronger sense of the American past.
